Blanco-Melo et al.29 compared transcriptional responses to SARS-CoV-2 using cell lines, ferrets and samples from patients and found that, compared with other respiratory viruses, the host immune response to SARS-CoV-2 fails to launch a robust type I and type III interferon response while simultaneously inducing high levels of chemokines and pro-inflammatory cytokines.
